Description
English: Belgium. Oost-Vlaanderen. Gent. Sint-BaafskathedraalInv 42; KALVARIE, XVde eeuw, vermoedelijk circa 1464- 1468, toegeschreven aan Joos van WASSENHOVE, alias Justus van GENT ; triptiek op hout ; beschilderd veld, middenpaneel 214,9 cm x 169,3 cm ; zijpanelen 214,7 cm x 78,6 cm (laboratoriummeting, zie Het Calvarie-drieluiuk, I 96 I, p. 24) ; moderne kaders. Geschiedenis : Het retabel werd vermoedelij k geschonken door Laureins de Maech, -t. 6.111.1469 (en niet 1468 of 1465), en zijn echtgenote Louise van den Hove, -t. 31.XI1.1483 (en niet 1484). Omwille van de op de buitenluiken voorgestelde patroonheiligen Laurentius en Lodewijk wordt het retabel sedert V. Fris (1923-1924) in verband gebracht met hun stichting dd. 31 oktober 1460 van een jaargetijde en dagelijkse mis (I), en met de traditie betreffende de fundatie van een eigen kapel in 1462 : ontrent de zelver tyt (fundering van de westtoren, 25 mei 1462) was oock ghefundeert de capelle van Lauwereyns de Maech, ontvanghere van Vlaenderen, neffens de kevye 'tsente Jans, an de zuutzyde van der kercken, westwaert van derzelver kevye (2).
