Description
English: Liebig Chromos. Trade card. Series 1357, Insects living in the water, no 4, Haemonia appendiculata Panzer (Chrysomelidae, Donaciinae). 1937. Private collection Paul MR Maeyaert. 7,1 x 11cm. ; Ref: PM_110588_Liebig_Chromos; www.pmrmaeyaert.eu; www.polmayer.com; Cultural heritage; Cultural heritage|Techniques|Postcard trade card. Text on reverse: INSECTES VIVANT DANS L’EAU; IV. LES HEMONIES (HAEMONIA APPENDICULATA); Ce curieux insecte vit dans les grands étangs, à fond vaseux, à l'état larvaire et à l'état parfait, sur le Potamogeton dont il se nourrit. On le rencontre rarement à moins d'un mètre et demi de profondeur. La larve arrivée à maturité secrète une coque transparente, appliquée sur la racine de la plante nourricière, en dessous du collet. L'intérieur de cette coque où s'opère la nymphose, est rempli d'air provenant des canaux aérifères de la plante. L'insecte parfait. dont la taille atteint 7,5 m/m, est lucifuge, vient rarement à la surface et ne sort jamais de l'eau. La respiration de l'Hémonie adulte est semblable à celle des Elmides, décrite à la planche III. Notre image nous montre l'insecte parfait, grossi, et la larve ainsi que sa coque en grandeur naturelle.;
