195 Victoria Road, Drummoyne. Taken from car window. P.J.Gallagher's pubs are modelled on the Crown Liquor Saloon on Great Victoria Street, Belfast . The Crown was built in 1882 and survived 42 bombs during the Troubles. Rumour has it that the original proprietors were a married couple, the wife Protestant, the husband Catholic. They argued about the name and the wife won, so it was called The Crown (a traditional symbol of British rule in Ireland). To get his revenge the husband built a mosaic of the crown on the floor of the entrance, so as they stumbled out the drunken punters would be stamping all over it.
