Title
PIN
Description
English:

Copper alloy pin of middle Anglo-Saxon date, of the type known as 'wrythen-headed'. It has a globular head with thin oblique grooves which start at the crown and terminate at the collar at the top of the shaft. A 1mm collar separates the head from the round-section shaft, which is broken 35mm from the collar. Midway down the surviving length, the diameter of the shaft is 2.25mm. The bend in the shaft is a common feature of such pins, which were probably used as hairpins. It is polished by wear. Length (as found): 48.16mm, Diameter (head): 10.63mm, Weight: 6.8g.
