2 of 5 stars for Kaigan Sushi restaurant. Saturday early dinner-time and looking to try a new place. I had driven by Kaigan a few weeks ago and tonight decided to stop-in. The decor is typical Japanese restaurant with lots of wood and paper walls. The tables are a bit plain and likewise a plain table setting. My first reaction was low to middle level Japanese restaurant. I will complement the friendly staff and the prompt service. Likewise, the food was delivered quickly. We ordered a soft shell crab starter plus a tempura starter. Frankly the crab was tasteless and the tempura was just barely OK. The shrimp had a fishy taste. For my main I had their Kaigan delux bento box ($17). The soup and salad were fine. The California roll was tasteless. The chicken and pork were OK. It seemed odd that I had to ask for Wasabi and Ginger as it wasn't supplied. All in all, it was just barely OK. The food mostly tasteless. Considering there are two other Japanese Restaurants within walking distance from Kaigan, I'd clearly prefer either of the other two. Sorry, but, I can not recommend Kaigan. |
