Afrikaans: Die Suid-Afrikaanse Grofgeskut-gedenkteken te Markplein, Port Elizabeth. Ses 6"-houwitsers is in 1921 aan die Unie van Suid-Afrika geskenk deur die Britse regering, in erkenning van die Unie se bydrae tot die 1ste WO. Na restourasie staan dit tans in Bloemfontein.
English: The South African Heavy Artillery Memorial, Market Square, Port Elizabeth. Six 6"-howitzers were donated to the Union of South Africa by the British Government in 1921 in recognition for services rendered during WWI. The other howitzers are in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. The gun was relocated to St. George's Park in February 1933 when the square was converted to the once-beautiful Mayor's Garden. Following it being sent for restoration it is now in Bloemfontein. |
