AN INSPIRATIONAL PCSO from Birmingham East will take part in the British National Track Championships at the end of this month after training with the Paralympics Development squad for Great Britain. In 2003, Tom Bradbury − who is attached to the Safe Haven team in Birmingham East, sustained a brachial plexus injury following a motorbike accident leaving him unable to use his right hand and wrist. Having always been into keeping fit, Tom continued to push himself physically and his focus and determination resulted in a referral to the British Cycling organisation. This lead to him taking part in a successful trial at the Manchester Velodrome recently and subsequently being invited to train with the Paralympics Development Squad. In addition, Tom will also be representing the force at the National Track Championships later this month. Inspector Nick Halligan from Birmingham East, said: "Everyone at Birmingham East is extremely proud of Tom and are all in full support for his race at the end of this month. "Tom's hard work and commitment to his job as a PCSO is inspirational. On behalf of everyone at Birmingham East I would like to wish him the best of luck for his upcoming race." In his role as a PCSO on the 'Safe Haven' team, Tom works with young people in the community, helping steer them away from crime. Talking about his weekend at Manchester Velodrome and the upcoming race, PCSO Tom Bradbury said: "This has come along as a bit of a surprise and has provided me with a very steep learning curve. I'm a week away from the track nationals so I'm preparing with this in mind. I will be racing for West Midlands Police Cycling Club at the nationals, hoping to provide them with a result to back up their fantastic support.
