Description
English: Sedgeford, England. Lieutenant (Lt) Charles Eaton, Royal Flying Corps (RFC) at the controls of a Martinsyde Elephant Type G100 fighter aircraft. This aircraft was allocated the number B872 after it was rebuilt by No 1 Southern Aircraft Repair Depot, South Farnborough and allocated to 110 Squadron RFC at Sedgeford. At this time 110 Squadron was conducting flying operations in the defence of London. This aircraft was fitted with synchronised machine guns that fired through the propeller but was fitted with one forward firing machine gun, mounted on top of the wing above the propeller, and one Lewis Gun mounted on the left hand side of the cockpit. The trigger mechanism to fire the wing mounted machine gun, a rod from the trigger to the cockpit, is clearly visible. Donor C Eaton.
