Description

Près de la casemate H667 (pour canon 5 cm KWK L42), vers le 10 juin 1944, les Engineers Special Brigades (5th et 6th pour Omaha) ont installé leur poste de commandement.(PC codé "MARS" Provisional Engineer Special Brigade Group) Voir leur marquage, arc de cercle blanc, sur leur casque. Plusieurs soldats se reposent, à droite une Jeep avec un dispositif coupe câble, sur le sable un grillage Sommerfeld, un cameraman. La scène se passe au Wn 65 au Ruquet sur la commune de St Laurent sur Mer. Secteur Omaha Beach. Photo publiée dans "Schenectady Gazette" du 12 juin 1944, recadrée, censure un peu différente news.google.com/newspapers?nid=ziW8EwMpto0C&dat=19440... Le bunker pour canon antichar de 5 cm existe toujours, transformé en monument, voir ici le repère 5: www.normandie44lamemoire.com/fichesvilles/collevillestlau... 3 photos de cette casemate: p011350, p011389 et p011391. La photo a été censurée, voir le panneau marqué INFORMATION sur la table, la pancarte CLEARING STATION à droite; on peut supposer que ces GI's du Wn 65 étaient chargés de "trier" les arrivants pour les diriger sur la bonne "transit area" ou tel dépôt. A gauche une pancarte AMMUNITION (munition), devant un Medic (infirmier) avec brassard Croix-Rouge.
