Description
English: Pál Joensen and his parents Turið Kjærbo and Kaj Joensen. Pál Joensen is the first Faroese sports person who has won a medal at a World Championship. He took bronze in 1500 m freestyle at the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m). Joensen participated at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he was the first Faroese swimmer who has ever competed at the Olympics and the second Faroese sportsperson, who has ever participated at the Olympics. After the Olympics Pál Joensen moved to live in Copenhagen in Denmark, where he continues to swim on high level. This photo was taken in the School of Vágur on 21 December 2012 in Joensen's hometown Vágur, where people from the island Suðuroy celebrated their hero, just after his return from Denmark, and shortly after he had won the bronze medal in Istanbul.
