| Description |
English: Oxenhope Moor Laboratories, Cock Hill - rear of the main building This complex was formerly RAF Oxenhope. The station was built during WWII as part of the GEE navigation system. The site was maintained by the RAF until 1970 when it was taken over by Bradford University who turned the facility into a laboratory for weather forecasting.
In the early 1990s a robotic telescope was installed. The observatory operated The structure which appears to house a water tank is the bottom of a larger mast which can be seen in a photo from 1965 on the Haworth Village website http://www.haworth-village.org.uk/history/history-pics/large.asp?pic=103 In October 2008 Bradford University announced that they plan to 'revamp' the site by demolishing the main building, now derelict, and erecting new security fencing. http://www.hebdenbridgetimes.co.uk/news/Former-RAF-radar-station-to.4597142.jp |
