"Overland", sun and wing device on South Australian Railways 500 class steam locomotive

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "Overland" sun, cloud and wing device on a South Australian Railways 500 class steam locomotive. Soon after some 500 class locomotives received a valance to match the appearance of the new Overland brand in 1936, this device was added to the valance above the cylinders. The design of its graphical component was almost identical to that of the Southern Pacific Railroad's Daylight trains introduced in 1937, reflecting the enthusiasm with which South Australian Railways staff followed North Amercian railroad practice in the aftermath of their charismatic American commissioner W.A. Webb.
