35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Passeriformes; Family: Parulidae; Genus: Seiurus; Genus species: Seiurus aurocapillus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 14.5 cm; Identification: The ovenbird has dull olive-brown upperparts, whitish underparts with a heavy dark streaking on the breast and flanks, and a rufous crown stripe bordered with a black lateral stripe; Habitat: Deciduous forests, mixed forests, coniferous forests, swamps; Diet: Carnivore: insects, worms, spiders, snails; Reproduction: Nests are built on the ground. Females are responsible for incubating their 4-5 eggs. The male helps her care for the hatchlings; Behavior: Ovenbirds migrate at night; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Ovenbirds get their name from the shape of the nests they build. They are often parasitized by cowbirds.
