Condi-tions are often met which one seldom,if ever, encounters in afternoon racing,and weather of several different kindsmay be ones lot in the same race. A brief outline of last summers con-test for the Brooklyn Yacht ClubsOcean Cup, in which the writer sailedon the Waialua, will serve to give agood idea of the diversity of experienceone may enjoy on such trips. The course lay from off Echo Bay toVineyard Sound Lightship and aroundit, then outside Block Island and LongIsland to Sheepshead Bay, a distance oftwo hundred and eighty nautical miles.The first part of the journey was cov-ered under spinnakers, with a moderatebreeze and ideal fair weather.
