Since my visit to western Mexicoand my journey over the Sierra Madres,many inquiries have been addressed tome as to the practicability of vacationhunting trips to this section, the game tobe had, how to reach it, and the prob-able cost. These questions I shall nowendeavor to answer as best I can. In the course of my mule-back journeyof upward of a thousand miles throughthe lowland and mountain wildernessof western Mexico, I was constantlyimpressed with the manifold attractionsthat the country holds for sportsmen.With every new trail I traversed theseseemed to increase. The lagoons andmarshes near the coast were alive withsnipe, curlew, and many varieties ofwild ducks. Ascending the valley of the SantiagoRio, huge alligators were seen baskingin the sun on every sandy reach alongthe river bank. Coveys of quail rose be-fore us. Deer scampered away as weapproached their feeding trysts by thebrooks
