If one is desirousof doing much of this work, it would bemuch better to have a pair made for one.This can be done at a slight cost, havingthe spurs longer so that they will penetratethrough the bark and imbed firmly in thesolid wood, thus saving a fall when the barkgives away. If the spurs are placed at theinstep, and slightly under, with the spursinward and downward, you need not fearthe tallest tree. Concerning the camera, by all means useone with which you can focus on your ob-ject carefully, without guessing. The sizeis a personal matter, although the largeplate is a great advantage. I can especially recommend this branchof photography to amateurs, feeling surethat they will find it interesting sport. Byusing care in focusing, good judgment ingiving the proper length of exposure andexercising plenty of patience with yoursubject, who seems unduly modest aboutpublicity, striking results can be obtained—ample to repay you fully for the trialsand hardships endured.
