| Description |
English: Ouse Bridge,York The river Ouse, though picturesque is the cause of much trouble for the residents of central York, despite the presence of flood prevention measures. To the rear of the photographer's position is a famous public house called The Kings Arms, the owners of this establishment are so used to being flooded they no longer even bother to try to keep the water out of their property,they adopt the attitude that the water definitely WILL flood them annually and so have raised the wiring, concreted the flooring, waterproofed the plasterwork and made removable cupboards etc, which seems eminently sensible. |
