To the busy man or woman, the scientific, pro-fessional, or literary worker, whose circle is narrowed downto a few chosen friends, the ceremonious call is regardedas an irksome exaction to be avoided. To the fashionableindividual, whose life is a round of societys demands andreturns, its strictly defined code is at once a law and a pro-tection, without which chaos would come indeed. To thesensible, well-bred person, though he may avoid fashionablesociety on account of its ceremonious demands, the ruleswhich govern it are a recognized necessity, and the under-standing of them a part of his education. The Morning Call.— Morning calls, as they are termed,from the English custom of not dining till evening, and allthat part of the day which precedes this meal being called 107 I08 OUR SOCIETY. morning, should not be made earlier than 12 m.,
