OUSE FINCH—CROSSBILL—CARDINAL GROSBEAK—BLUE GROSBEAK^SCARLET TANAQERo We will now take a stroll into the woods of Caro-lina, and see if there is anything among the featheredinhabitants of the South that is peculiarly attractiveand worthy of attention. The lofty branches of theLong Leaved Pines are waving majestically over ourheads, their fine and beautiful foliage being here andthere varied by a clump of )aks and Hickory. Clus-:ering vines of many sorts are twining themselvesaround the giant stems, wreathing the branches withfestoons of gay-colored flowers, and mingling theirfragrance with the sweet bloom of many a floweringshrub. The air is soft and balmy, and possessed ofa peculiar freshness which is characteristic of a pineforest. Nature here seems to have profusely spreadher charms on every side, pointing us at each step tosome new object of admiration.
