Summary

[edit]
Description Our driver eventually makes his appearance along with a friend who will help him put our 'train' together again. And no, it's not the same Norry we came on. Trains assembled as and when demand arises- I love this! A norry or nori (from the French word for lorry) is an improvised rail vehicle from Cambodia. Lonely Planet describes it as "Cambodia's bamboo train". The trains run at speeds of up to 50 km/h on the 1 m gauge tracks around Battambang and Poipet. THere have been talks since 2009 about abandoning the Norries in favour of proper trains on the route but as at the time of my visit (April 2014), nothing of the sort seems to be happening.
