Summary
[edit]DescriptionOuimet Canyon is a glacial spillway (8042405862).jpg |
Steep deep shady canyon carved by glacial spillway. Glaciologists say it's post-glacial meltwater from further inland that washed over these uplands and enlarged/deepened cracks in the local mesa. Ouimet is the largest of several steep-walled canyons hereabouts and according to the mappers, 'big ice' overrode these 'narrow cracks'. Made use of a passing cloud to show the Indian Head otherwise in dark shadow. First time around was 26 years prior. close-up of the Indian Head www.flickr.com/photos/31856336@N03/3493996173/ looking out over this same edge, pre-balcony days www.flickr.com/photos/31856336@N03/4057370874/ |
