Description

Otway Covered Bridge Brush Township, Scioto County, Ohio October 31, 2006

The Otway Bridge carried Ohio Route 348 over Scioto Brush Creek until it was bypassed in 1963. This bridge has two spans, one wooden and the other steel.

The west span of the bridge is a Smith truss wooden covered bridge built in 1874 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio. A double Burr arch was added in 1896. The length of this span is 137 feet.

The east span of the bridge is a riveted Warren pony truss steel bridge built in

1923 to replace an open wooden bridge.
