Description
English: The world-famous safe manufacturer Samuel Chatwood of London undertook the construction of a ‘steel fort’ housing various safe rooms that belonged to the Ottoman Bank building, which was inaugurated on 27 May 1892. “We have been informed that the Ottoman Bank has ordered a very large safe from London, worth thirteen thousand pounds sterling, which will be placed in the cellar of the new office building in the neighborhood of Perşembe Pazarı in Galata. This safe will be imported in several pieces and will be installed by the employees of the safe factory who will come to our city for this purpose.” A newspaper report on the shipping of the new building’s safe rooms from London, “Sabah,” 16 May 1891
