Description

For the reclamation of the Biesbosch on the island of Dordrecht for the benefit of agricultural land, it was the habitat of the osier workers. These cuts willow branches, reed, rushes and chopped willow wood for stakes and things like that. This historic building is on a mound to protect it against the tide water. A tide difference of 2 meters was no exception. Wet feet! The building is located behind the farm the Elshoeve, now safely behind the high Oostdike along the river the Nieuwe Merwede. Since the Delta works there is a tide difference on the Nieuwe Merwede at this location, of a half meter under normal circumstances. A little higher up the river where the Dordtse Biesbosch, Sliedrechtse Biesbosch is called. It is located on the island of Dordrecht but nearby the village of Sliedrecht, the tide difference is still one meter under normal circumstances. Think what happens on rainy days. The flow and underflow in the rivers around Dordrecht is therefore by the level difference quite violent. Swimming is therefore a very bad idea.
