| Description |
Originários do Carnaval de Veneza e do Bal Masqué francês, os “clowns” surgiram em Olinda no início do século XX, juntamente com as primeiras agremiações carnavalescas da cidade. Além da vestimenta confeccionada em cetim, de várias cores, o que diferencia esses palhaços das “almas”, também muito usadas na folia de Olinda, é a bela máscara que compõe o traje, chamada “cabeça de moça”, pois suas feições reproduzem apenas faces de mulher. Outra tradição dos clowns é que esses personagens costumam aparecer em grupos e circulam apenas nas manhãs dos dias de Carnaval, outro costume herdado dos mascarados venezianos.
