Español: Las orugas de la mariposa monarca se alimentan exclusivamente de las hojas de la planta (Asclepias), que es la única fuente de alimento que les proporciona las sustancias tóxicas que necesitan para protegerse de los depredadores.
En cuanto a la cantidad que comen, las orugas de la mariposa monarca tienen un apetito voraz y pueden consumir grandes cantidades de hojas de la planta en un corto período de tiempo. Se ha calculado que una oruga de tamaño promedio puede comer entre 20 y 30 hojas de la planta de la leche durante su desarrollo. Es importante tener en cuenta que la cantidad de alimento que consumen las orugas varía según su tamaño, etapa de crecimiento y otros factores. Además, durante su fase de crecimiento, las orugas experimentan varias mudas o cambios de piel, durante los cuales pueden perder una cantidad significativa de masa corporal. Por lo tanto, necesitan consumir una gran cantidad de hojas de la planta de la leche para reponer los nutrientes perdidos durante la muda y crecer adecuadamente. |
