Deutsch: Dieses 1908 errichtete Geschäftshaus wurde 1902 von den eng verwandten Kaufleuten Jakob Berglas (1884-1963) und Jakob Intrator (1875-1943) erworben. Nach der Machtübertragung an die Nationalsozialisten im Jahr 1933 wurden beide aus rassistischen Motiven in ihrer Geschäftstätigkeit massiv behindert, so dass sie sich schließlich zur Emigration gezwungen sahen. Jakob Berglas lebte ab 1937 in China, ab 1941 in den USA. Jakob Intrator verließ Berlin zusammen mit seiner Frau Rosa im Oktober 1941. Viele Angehörige der Familien Berglas und Intrator wurden im Holocaust ermordet.
Das Haus Wallstraße 16 wurde 1938 an die Möbelfabrik Heim&Gerken aus Birkenwerder zwangsversteigert. Der Versteigerungserlös wurde den beiden als Juden verfolgten Eigentümern nicht ausgezahlt. Die Stoffdruckfirma Geitel&Co. nutzte ab 1938 vier Fünftel der Hausfläche. Sie druckte hier im Spätsommer 1941 rund eine Million »Judensterne«. Diese gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Stoffaufnäher erleichterten die staatliche Verfolgung der Jüdinnen und Juden und bereiteten ihre Deportation in die Vernichtungslager vor. |
