at the Great Horned Owl,(lliibo virijinianiis,) laid from three to six eggs, we cannotbut regard the statement as an error. There is no reason tosupiiose that those birds laid more eggs in his day thanthey (h) now, and no one at the present time has ever suc-ceeded in finding more than four. Two and three are thecommon niiiuber. It is a pity, therefore, that Mr. Capenfollows Audubon, and tells lis that as many as six havebeen found, So also is it a mistake to say of the Ued-tailed Hawk, (liatea liiirealin,) tliat the eggs are usuallythree in number, seldom more or less. Two are oftenerfound than three. These are minor faults however, and detract very littlefrom the value of the book. Taken altogether it is a mostcreditable work, and it is to be hoped that Mr. Capen willmeet with sutlicieni encouragement to enable him to go onwith his book and publish other voliiuies, which will, intime, make the book a comiileti history of the oiilogy of.North .\iiierica. .1.
