188 ORNITHOLOGIST (Vol. 10-No. 12 from W to X (Fig. 4,); clean the bone E to W,and cut away what you can of the meat from Wto X. It is not uccessar3 to take every particleof meat. I leave the cords, they help to hold thewing firmly when dry. Be sure the poison iswell applied at the proper time. Repeat this inlike manner with the other wing, F to W and Wto X. Many skin the wing from W to the tipbeyond X. This can be done by starting theskin by pressing firmly at the point W, sidetowards the quills. When it starts it can easilybe skinned the rest of the way. I do not as arule do this; it sometimes displaces the wingfeathers so that it takes time to make themsmooth. In large birds I only clean the bonetu W, and after the bird is all skinned and turnedback, I open the wing on the outside under partfrom W to X, remove meat, poison and sew upthe cut. The skinning is now completed. Poison bybrushing dry preservative over all the parts (fleshside) with the rabbits foot. For large birds usears
