Small numbers of both sexes are seentogether, always on the ground, feeding principally on worms, insects, andlarvffi, perhaps also seeds. They run very quickly when frightened, andsometimes fly, but not more than a few feet above the ground, making a ODONTOPHORUS CINCTUS. 41 great noise with their wings, hke Snipes; but they cannot stay long inthe air.
