Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Hotel Irving, once located at 1519-25 2nd Avenue, between Pike and Pine. Designed by Saunders & Lawton, It was built in the latter half of 1905 by S.L. Bowman, William Simonson and Dr. Alfred Raymond, a prominent local brain surgeon, who like many professional men at the time, bought and sold real estate in his spare time. Raymond had purchased the property in 1901 and formed the Raymond Realty and Investment Company in 1906, where he soon transferred all his land holdings. Over the years it was known as the Hotel Irving, Hotel Forest, and finally the Green Tortoise Hotel, which relocated to the corner of First and Pike when this building was slated for demolition in 2007. It was replaced by a glass tower. Dr. Raymond's 1912 Joseph Cote-designed home in Madrona still stands and is a Seattle city landmark.
