Summary
[edit]DescriptionOrgreave Colliery, steam winding engine - geograph.org.uk - 1768814.jpg |
English: Orgreave Colliery, steam winding engine This duplex Markham was the only example of this layout I ever saw, although there were others using the horizontal piston exhaust valves at each end of the cylinders. This view shows the drop steam valves above the cylinder, the piston exhaust valves low down at the side, the actuating wristplate in the middle and the cross-shaft passing through the lagging to operate it all. The light shaft entering stage right top and picking up on a shaft passing between the two cylinders is the governor linkage to alter the steam valve cut-off. |
