This image shows (or resembles) a symbol that was used by the National Socialist (NSDAP/Nazi) government of Germany or an organization closely associated to it, or another party which has been banned by the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany.

The use of insignia of organizations that have been banned in Germany (like the Nazi swastika or the arrow cross) may also be illegal in Austria, Brazil, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Israel, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and other countries, depending on context. In Germany, the applicable law is paragraph 86a of the criminal code (StGB), in Poland – Art. 256 of the criminal code (Dz.U. 1997 nr 88 poz. 553).

  • Color plate showing uniforms, flags, emblems, insignia, decorations, etc. of the Hitlerjugend (HJ, Hitler Youth), Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ, German Youngsters in the Hitler Youth), Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM, League of German Girls), and Jungmädelbund (JM, Young Girls' League), Youth organizations of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP, National Socialist German Workers' Party) in Nazi Germany.
  • BDM rank insignia
    • In 1939, a new uniform was introduced for regional and national leaders within the League of German Girls, and along with the new uniforms came new rank insignia for leaders. These new rank insignia took the form of a silver, and for higher ranks, gold bullion embroidered open-winged eagle on a black (white, on the summer tunic) shield with various types of borders to indicate grade. They were worn on the left chest of the tunic.

  • Lanyards (ropes) rank insignia for HJ and BDM.
    • The lanyard, worn around the neck, the leather knot or second button hole in the Kletterjacke and tucked in left chest pocket, served as the sole indication of rank in both the BDM and the Jungmaedel from 1936. In 1939 BDM introduced new eagle decoreted cloth patches for leaders worn on left chest.

The illustrations also appear in the 1940 edition of Organisationsbuch der NSDAP, the official Nazi party handbook, published by Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiter-Partei. Reichsorganisationsamt (The National Organization Office of the National Socialist German Workers' Party) under its leader Robert Ley (1890–1945, Reichsorganisationsleiter, head of the party organization). The publishing organization was dissolved in 1945.
