Oregon's annular eclipse passes over the Alvord Desert in the Burns District. Photo by Dory Seeley On Saturday, October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse was visible from your public lands across Oregon. Occurring when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, this event creates a “ring of fire” effect in the sky. The path of annularity began on a cloudy Oregon coast and crossed through to the southeastern deserts of our state where things were a bit clearer.
