Shook Remark: The following newspaper item concerning this fire was published in the January 25, 1907, issue of The Colfax Gazette, Colfax, Whitman County, Washington [Volume 30, Page 5, Column 2]:

Depot Burns at Tekoa.

The O. R. & N. depot at Tekoa, which contained the division superintendent's and the dispatcher's office, caught fire Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 from a defective flue. The local fire department responded and fought diligently against the increasing flames, and after nearly two hours' fighting the flames were under control, but not until the building was almost ruined. The second story, which contained almost all the offices and where about 30 office men were stationed, was entirely destroyed and it was only by desperate chances that many of the company's records were saved. The telegraph instruments were all destroyed.
