The School of Art andScience, dating from 1863, is also under the manage-ment of the school-board. Sharps Educational Insti-tution was erected in South Methven Street by bequestof Mr John Sharp, late baker in Perth. The large andcommodious building was opened 10 Sept. I860, andaccommodates 450 children. It comprises, besidesinfant, junior, and senior departments, an industrialschool for girls, and a recently-erected technical school(for boys), with a well-appointed lecture-room, labora-tory, and work-room. PERTH PERTH 6 directors, and has a staff of 5 masters, 2 mistresses,and assistants. Stewarts Free School, in Mill Street,is under the patronage of the deacons of the trades in-corporations. The Seymour Munro Free School, inCaledonian Eoad, is managed by two life trustees, and 9others, acting ex oificiis. There is an Industrial schoolfor girls at Wellshill ; while the Fechney IndustrialSchool, in the same neighbourhood, instituted in 1864with a bequest by Mrs Fechney, is for boys. Perth has a head post office with all the usual depart-ments ; offices of the Bank of Scotland, the Union,British Linen Co., Royal, National, Commercial,Clydesdale, and Aberdeen Town and County banks. Itis also the headquarters of the Savings Banks of theCounty and City of Perth, established in 1838 andcertified under the Act of 1863, for the safe custodyand increase of small savings belonging to the industri-ous classes of the neighbourhood.
