Summary
[edit]DescriptionOrchid on the lower slopes of Theisheabhal Beag - geograph.org.uk - 1378619.jpg |
English: Orchid on the lower slopes of Theisheabhal Beag My adventure into identifying orchids has ground to a halt with this one! The markings on the petals are very dark (reminiscent of seaside rock, or Love-hearts!), the lower lip is deeply indented, as opposed to toothed or frilled, and the leaves are relatively broad, pointed and marked with spots..... these elements don't come together any of the descriptions I can find - I need expert help :O)! UPDATE: expert help says:"All part of the wonderful variation of Dactylorhiza!! It is a Heath-spotted Orchid. Nothing else very similar to it to be honest, but like all Dactylorhiza, endlessly variable." (I'm leaving my confuddled-thoughts alongside the clarification, in case another orchid-ingenue passes thisaway!) ....... Thanks, Mike! |
