Fig. 2 exhibits the parts cut through in this operation. Lithotomy. Lateral Operation. An enema of warm watershould be administered about an hour before the operation. Thebladder should be moderately full. The staff should be introduced,and made to strike the stone previous to placing the patient on thetable. The table should be about two and a half feet high. Thepatient should be placed upon his back, with his shoulders restingin the lap of an assistant, who sits astride behind him. A piece ofbroad worsted tape, doubled as in Fig. 3, should be placed uponeach wrist, and the patient made to grasp the outside of each footwith the hand of the same side; and the hand and foot are to befirmly secured in this position, with the tape already applied to thewrist.
