The knife is firstapplied as in Fig. 1, and carried round the limb, through the skinand cellular tissue, at one sweep ; the integuments are then forciblyretracted, or dissected up in some cases, as in Fig. 3, when anothercut is made through the superficial muscles ; these again are drawnup, and the incisions finished by a circular sweep of the knife to thebone; the bone is then divided by the saw, as in Plate XLIT.
