Li these cases, an oval incision ismade, as in amputation of the metacarpal bone of the little finger,(Plate XXIII. Fig. 5.) In anrputation of the great toe, it is better,if circumstances permit, to cut through the bone, as in the figure, —or, what is better, with the forceps, — than to disarticulate it fromthe internal cuneiform bone. In dividing the metatarsal bones of thegreat and little toes, the forceps should be held obliquely, so as toavoid leaving prominent angles. Fig. 3. Dressing of the stump in the above cases. Fig. 4.
