is made down to the cartilage ofsufficient length to let it escape. Dr. Goyrand, and also Mr. Syme, proposes the following method, 120 OPEEATIVE SURGERY ILLUSTRATED. (PLATE lxxii. as the above operation is considered very hazardous : The cartilagebeing fixed as above described, a narrow knife is passed under theskin, and a wound is made in the capsule of sufficient size to allow itto be squeezed out of the joint into the subcutaneous cellular tex-ture ; time is then given for the wound in the synovial membrane toheal, and the cartilage may be allowed to remain in its new position,or be removed, according to circumstances.
