The wound is cleansed and dressed in the usual 1226 OPERATIVE SURGERY. The Remarks.—Extensive glandular involvement and enfeebled repara-tive power contraindicate the operation. Gouleys Method.—In Gouleys method make a curvilinear incision ateither side of the root of the penis, beginning in the median line, aboutan inch and a half above the level of the pubes and ending a little belowthe peno-scrotal junction. The cavernous bodies are exposed and transfixedwith a large knitting needle or with a suitable substitute; the urethra istransfixed by a smaller instrument of like nature on the same plane, and thepenis is amputated an eighth of an inch in front of them. After all thebleeding points are secured, a grooved staff is introduced through the urethra
