If we add to this description of the form and location of the disease thename of the pathogenic organism, the outlined description becomes fairly com-plete; for example, we often have a cystitis trigonalis (gonococcus), acystitis posterior (tuberculosa), or a cystitis universalis (bacilluscoli communis). Pathological Anatomy.—In acute cystitis the mucous surface of the bladderbecomes intensely red and swollen, and sometimes ecchymotie; in the chronicforms the bladder becomes discolored and grayish, the mucosa thickened andthe tissue beneath it infiltrated. In the more advanced stages there is a breaking down of the tissues in thecenter of the inflammatorv area and an ulcer is formed. An ulcer of this kind,

When the inflammation is localized in thetrigonum the ulcer formed often gives rise to excessive hemorrhages, runs aprotracted course, and responds slowly to all but the most energetic plan oftreatment. (See Fig. 271.) When the inflammation extends into the muscular vesical wall (cystitisparenchymatosa), abscesses may form and rupture into the bladder.
