A steam pressure of 20 pounds wouldbe ample to heat a train of twa or three cars, but a steampressure of 40 pounds or more might be necessary to in-sure a circulation of steam at the rear end of very longand heavy trains, especially in extremely cold weather. The E. C. H/ Relief Valve, illustrated Figure 24, isan improved form of valve with duplex spring, especial-ly adapted for the Economy Car Heating System, forwhich United States Letters Patent have been applied. The E. C. H. Relief Valve is located inside the cab,with its pipe connections so arranged that the surplussteam from the train heating system will be dischargedeither through the roof of the cab or into the saddle orfront end of the locomotive, if it is desired to avoid thenoise and annoyance of the escaping steam.
