U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Xavier L. Cannon and members of the Philippine Armed Forces help civilians displaced by Typhoon Haiyan disembark a C-130 aircraft Nov. 13 at Villamor Air Base as part of Operation Damayan. The U.S. and Philippine Armed Forces have transported more than 107,000 pounds of relief supplies, 140 relief and aid workers, and more than 160 displaced personnel. The militaries of the two nations have partnered and trained together for decades, which prepare both forces for the challenges associated with extreme circumstances. Approximately 300 personnel from 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade have deployed in support of the relief efforts being orchestrated by the Government of the Philippines.
