Description
English: Soldiers came to compete in a combatives tournament at Camp Arifjan’s Zone 1 gym, March 28, 2012. The tournament was the first open tournament here, available to any soldier willing to participate. “Soldiers have the innate desire to win. In order to win, there has to be a competition of sorts,” said 1st Sgt. Luke Grim, first sergeant of the 56th Signal Company, and the non-commissioned officer-in-charge of the Camp Arifjan combatives program. “A brotherhood forms among competitors,” said Grim, “as the person across the ring also has to get through the pre-fight jitters and nerves. There is that handshake before the fight and the hug to end it.”
