| Description |
English: Open cast spoil heap When an incredibly deep hole is dug in the ground for an open cast mine, all the material from that hole (minus the valuable coal) must go somewhere. In most cases this is piled up in new "hills" next to the open cast mine as, in order to get permission to create an open cast, the company has to promise to return the area (including all rights of way) back to normal (or as close as possible) once mining is finished. |
