Los archivos desclasificados por Estados Unidos, a partir de la cantidad de juicios abiertos en el Cono Sur, el descubrimiento de los Archivos del horror de Paraguay (1992), la detención de Augusto Pinochet en Londres a solicitud del juez español Baltasar Garzón, que juzga el genocidio en América Latina ―y en ese encuadre investiga la Operación Cóndor―, muestran no sólo la vinculación de Kissinger sino sus órdenes directas. También en Argentina se piensa citarlo en el juicio contra la Operación Cóndor. Visitando París lo sorprendió la citación del juez Roger le Loire, el mismo que ordenó la detención en Roma el año pasado del militar argentino Jorge Olivera por el secuestro y desaparición de Anne Marie Erize, una joven de origen francés. Olivera fue liberado poco tiempo después, mediante una maniobra que incluye pruebas falsificadas, lo que dejó mal parada a la justicia italiana. La aparición del libro The trial of Henry Kissinger, del periodista e investigador británico Cristopher Hitchens, es tan revelador como otros libros y documentos acumulados en los últimos tiempos sobre el papel del ex secretario de Estado de dos gobiernos de su país, los de los republicanos Richard Nixon y Gerald Ford. «Kissinger y su equipo idearon el proyecto destinado a asesinar al general chileno René Schneider, que no sólo era líder de las fuerzas armadas de Chile sino que no hubiera aceptado el golpe de Estado ―dijo Hitchens en una entrevista con el corresponsal en París del diario Página/12 (de Buenos Aires)―. Se trata de una atrocidad absoluta y nosotros contamos con todos los detalles del atentado planeado por Kissinger y que le costó la vida a Schneider. Hay que decir también que se trata de una atrocidad contra la democracia chilena. Durante 25 años Kissinger impidió que los chilenos eligieran a su presidente».
