She wasa line looking woman, and, as she passed, gave nie a bowand a smile. She stayed in town an hour or two, thenstarted to go out, but was stopped by the sentinel. Iwas called, and she stated that she was returning home,and had no idea we would prevent her return; that shehad been in town on business, and told me what it was.Although I told her my orders, she tried to induce meto let her pass, but without success. I told her I wouldgo with her to see our captain, and probably he mightlet her pass. I did this, and the officers consulted andagreed to it; but a little Georgian, who overheard theconversation, said to the captain, You aint going tolet that woman pass, are you?
