Bedeutung: Die Wellenhöhe des Tsunamis wird in einer V-förmigen Bucht, die an der Mündung der Bucht breit und tief, am Ende der Bucht jedoch schmaler und flacher ist, verstärkt, abhängig von der Topographie des Meeresbodens sowie von der Refraktion und Beugung des Tsunamis. Die Wellen werden konzentriert und es kann zu großen Wellenhöhen kommen. Ein Beispiel dafür ist die Stadt Onagawa-machi in der Präfektur Miyagi mit einer der V-Form nahekommenden Bucht, in der im Fall der Großen Erdbebenkatastrophe Ost-Japans () die Wellenhöhe vermutlich durch die V-Form verstärkt wurde.
